Have you configured your Outlook with Microsoft Exchange Server? All your email messages and other mailbox data are stored into EDB (Exchange Database) files. Sometimes you may need to switch your email client. For example, you are using Microsoft Outlook with Exchange Server in your company. Within a week, you are going to switch from this company to a new organization where you will need to use IBM Lotus Notes. As I have already discussed that Outlook with Exchange Server creates EDB file to stores your mailbox data. This type of file cannot be accessed or opened in IBM Lotus Notes. IBM Lotus Notes supports the NSF database format that stores all the mailbox data of a user. So you need to convert your EDB files of Microsoft Exchange to Lotus Notes NSF database format.

How can you perform this conversion, i.e. EDB to NSF?

IBM Notes provides a built-in utility named nupgrade.exe which can be used to import data from the Exchange server to Lotus Notes email client.

You can follow the below guide to perform the conversion:

  1. Open Command Prompt and type nupgrade.exe then hit enter.
  2. Click on the Next button on the Notes Upgrade Service Wizard.
  3. Select the Exchange profile from the list.
  4. Again, click Next to continue the process.
  5. Select Express: All personal information converted to Notes (Recommended) or Custom: Select items to convert to Notes and click Next to continue.
  6. Now, the nupgrade utility will start exchange migration to Lotus Notes. All the emails will get saved in PeronalFolder.nsf and all the contacts will get saved to Names.nsf.

What If nupgrade Utility Fails To Migrate Emails Of Exchange Server?

Sometimes nupgrade utility fails to migrate all the emails of the Exchange mailbox. In such a situation, go by a utility provided by SysInfoTools Software that can convert Exchange Server EDB files into IBM Lotus Notes’ NSF format. The Exchange to Lotus Notes Converter of SysInfoTools can convert your EDB files (normal as well as corrupted) into NSF format within a few mouse clicks.

For performing the conversion of the Exchange Mailbox, you need to follow the below steps:

  1. Download and launch the EDB Migration Tool.
  2. Click on open and select the EDB file to convert.
  3. Then opt for the recovery mode and other options then click on the Ok button.
  4. Soon, scanning of the EDB file will get done.
  5. Now, provide the saving location of the resultant NSF file and click on the OK button.
  6. This will save the data

After the conversion process, you can directly replace the NSF file of Lotus Notes with the new NSF file. It will migrate all the Exchange Server data to the IBM Notes. 08 Easy Steps On How To Export EDB To PST

Conclusion

As Microsoft Exchange Server is only supported on the Windows platform, the IBM Notes is supported on Windows, Mac, Linux, etc. You can use it on multiple operating systems and unlike the Exchange Server, it supports virtualization. So, it’s better to migrate from Exchange Server to Lotus Notes. I hope, you found this helpful.
