In our daily lives, we keep on sharing files by using multiple methods, it could be Bluetooth, WiFi, wired, email attachments or cloud storage. But these things work absolutely fine when the size of the file you are sharing is small. if there is a 1 GB file transfer over the web, we need peer to peer file sharing.

What is P2P File Sharing?

In a P2P network, all the nodes or computers are connected with each other. A Peer to Peer software program allows the users to share or download the files instantly over the internet. You don’t need any client-server in between the nodes or peers to establish the connection.

Napster was the first peer-to-peer file sharing service, which was used to share the mp3 files over the network. The service was initially released on 1 June 1999 and got a stable release on 3 September 2002. It was a cross-platform service and after this many services like Gnutella, eDonkey and Freenet were released.

How Does it P2P Sharing Works?

Peer to Peer file sharing works on the self server and client principal. This is not a claimed principal, but I use this term to make you understand P2P file-sharing better. Once you are connected to the internet using a P2P network, you are allowed to download the files stored over those systems. If any other system wants to download the file from your computer then it is required to share the same network. At that time, your system starts acting as a file server for other systems over the network. This is how P2P file sharing takes place. This process also increases the download speed.

μTorrent is the most widely used program which works on the P2P network. This program also gives ease to share your large files over the web instantly, using P2P sharing. Other top P2P programs that are active are BitTorrent, AresGalaxy, eMule, KCeasy, FrostWire, WinMX, Gnutella, Vuze, and Soulseek.

In such cases, everything works in the same manner, except, only the software is installed on the cloud resources.

Sum-Up

Now whenever you need to transfer huge files over the web, you don’t need to worry about splitting the file into parts or uploading online in cloud storage and sharing with others. We recommend you to go with peer to peer file sharing and save your precious time.
